Okay so this is what happens when I get bored. I start coloring and re-coloring stuff :>

Heh, so I did something like this once before with a lineart where I saved out an image of it with all the shading and stuff but using the color scheme of one of the six dragonflights in Warcraft. Yeah, years after I've stopped playing I've still got a soft spot for the original game :XD:

Anyway. So this can't exactly be considered fan-art since it's just a hydra recolored to fit a certain theme =P

Unless the titles beneath the dragons aren't specific enough, I'll further clarify. From top left to right, up to down:
Red Dragonflight, Blue Dragonflight, Bronze Dragonflight, Green Dragonflight, Black Dragonflight, The Netherwing*

On the bottom row is the regular "Sunken Ruins" Hydra introduced in The Frozen Throne, and next to that is my ever-changing Wyvern Rae-Rae =)

All of the hydras used colors sampled from the adult dragon's bitmaps using a middle/neutral color when possible (Not a very dark or a very bright scale) and slight saturation adujustment if it turned out too bright or too dark. The Netherdrake and the WC3 Hydra were tough to pick a good color because of the massive variations in scale color on the Hydra and the gradient-style hide of the Netherdrake.

*To my /limited/ knowledge the Nether dragons have only been referred to as the Netherwing and not a supergroup like the original five, but I can just assume that they can be called that as well if one so chooses - I just never heard them be called that as a whole.

^^

I had a version of that same black hydra but with the flames in it. It looked pretty cool too XD

Mm...Is it wrong that I am totally in love with the hydras in the game? :XD:
Especially in the RTS where they were so adorable <3
They're so cute it's hard to fight them! (But if you don't the ancient ones will devour your armies :XD: ) And their idle animation is funny - the middle head nips the right head on it's beak, then turns to hiss at the left head. The other two heads ready to bite the middle head, and just as they're lunging, the middle head pulls back and the two heads collide with each other, causing the body to recoil a bit. It's so funny watching them bicker like that

How a random monster in a game like that can have so much personality is amazing.

Yus... I really should draw them some time, but I keep procrastinating and ending up not doing it D=

Heh if Hydras could be pets I'd have grabbed one the moment I could X3
I remember being pretty happy when the snakes (The cobra style ones, not the pythons) were tameable.

In-Game reason is I think because they're technically not "beasts". I don't know why, but they aren't - with the exception of these hydras in Azura that are marked as such but only to make this one Hunter quest easier.

My reason is because when you're performing the taming spell you can only do it on one head - the other two are unaffected, and the link between their minds they can easily shrug it off. So... Unless you find some way to put the other heads out of action for a while (Sleep spells? :P ) you can't tame them :XD:
